struggles for womens rights were long and hard for many centuries, if not dating back to the beginning of written history. In the past 50 years, however, women have made many great changes in their positions in the workforce in the nation, as they finally had the power and the rights they had worked so hard for. The following paper examines changes that have come about in the past 50 years in relationship to the workforce. Changes Concerning Women in the Workforce in the Last 50 Years As mentioned, in history women have long struggled for equal rights. But it was really not until relatively recently, historically speaking, that women had the right to vote. Women gained the legal right to vote in 1920 and since then great changes have occurred. The changes have generally been fueled by need. In the 40s, for example, women began to take the places of men in the workforce because so many men were off at war. In the 50s many women remained in the workforce, realizing they enjoyed having a job. The last 50 years, beginning with 1959, truly saw many pushes and changes in the workforce as it concerns women and many of these changes could well be argued to have been fueled by women working during WWII. At the end of the 50s the womens movement had not truly started in an obvious manner that people would see in the 60s and the 70s.
