Company Background IMB is an internationally known brand, associated with the logo developed by Paul Rand in the 1960s (Rand, 2000). The company that is known today for computer hardware and software as well as related services did not start out that way. IBM, whos full title is International Business Machines and is quoted in the New York Stock Exchange under the initials IBM has its foundation in the nineteenth century when the US census was seeking a more efficient method of tabulating the census results. In 1896 Herman Hollerith formed the tabulating machine that used an electrical current and holes in card to tabulate the results. The resulting Tabulating Machine Company that was formed by Hollerith in Washington DC and this company was to later become part of the company that would be known as IBM so many years later. The development of IBM is a patchwork, the Computing Scale Company of America is formed in 1901 and took on this company, another company International Time Recording Company is also formed in 1901, this is the company that would later acquire the Dey Time Register Company (IBM, 2003). The following decade sees a great deal of consolidation in this new sector that results in the formation of Computing- Tabulating- Recording Company (C-T-R) in 1911, with a merger organised by Charles F.
