seen as a reactive strategy the firm is changing responding to different environmental factors. Factors requiring a firm to change are broad ranging; the ongoing pace technology has resulted in many changes. Technology has been able to increase efficiency for firms. In the past adopting and leveraging technology may have been a source of competitive advantage; for example, Amazon was able to gain first mover advantage. Likewise Apple has used technology design for differentiation. However, technology has proliferated and firms that fail to adapt and change may be at a disadvantage. Other environmental factors which require firms to include factors such as the economic climate which may impact on the way demand emerges. Legislative changes can also force change, and one of the most important influences may be the way competitors evolve and change as the firm need to remain competitive. The proactive strategies to bring about change may be resulting fro internal goals and targets, where the firm is seeking to increase markets or product/service ranges, and/or adopt new strategies in top increase revenues and/or profits. This is the strategy many firms may follow when seeking to gain or renew a source of competitive advantage, as singular competitive advantages have only a limited life if they remain stagnant.
