provide benefits employers and employees alike. In other instances change will be forced upon a company if it wishes to survive, forced upon the firm as a result of cost
cutting measures. In recent times many firms have noticed a drop in the business they are receiving due to current economic climate conditions and the credit crunch.
Where there are falls in income the firm needs to either accept lower profits of make cut backs in order to reduce costs and maximize
the profits. It is for this reason many firms have sought to rationalize their operations, form small firms who have had to cut back on staff to larger firms that
are shutting down outlets. There are many examples of this; one of the better and more visible examples is Starbucks. In this paper we will assume that a firm is
facing rationalization with the shutting of and office/shop1. 2. The Change With falling sales the firm has to face costs which are remaining high and becoming unsustainable if the firm
wants to survive. The decision is made that saving can be made by cutting back on the office/shop space and the decision was made to close one of the facilities
the company leased. The lease was coming up for renewal so there would not be exist clause and penalty costs, it would be simply a matter of not renewing the
lease. There were some rumors going around before the change occurred, it was apparent that business levels were down and this was more apparent due to the high local news
