you? In what ways do they look the same or different? Chandler, Arizona is a medium-sized town of 176,939, according to the 2000 census, in which the vast
majority of the population, 77.2 percent is white. This means that, for the most part, the people of Chandler to not look do not look like the student. However, the
student does fit in that the writer/tutor presumes that the student is young, as the medium age for Chandler residents is in their early 30s for both men and women.
People of Asian extraction make up 4.2 percent of the population. This statistic demonstrates the Anglo tendency to classify all Asian and Pacific Islanders together, even though they differ greatly
according to culture and language. Filipinos, that is, the people who are actually like the student, make up less than 1 percent of the population (0.7 percent, 1199 people, to
be precise) (Census 2000, 2008). How do leaders within your community treat people who are like you? How do they treat people who are different? Judging from online
sources, Chandler, and Arizona in general, appears to be a welcoming community that values cultural diversity and welcomes Filipinos. For the last 13 years, Chandler has celebrated its diversity via
the Chandler Multicultural Festival (2008 Chandler, 2008). This celebration is typically held in conjunction with celebrating the legacy of civil right leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As part of
