industry develops is usually a balance between public and private investment, driven by market needs to encourage and support investment and development and the factors of supply and demand.
India has a very unusual economy; it is developing and growing, stimulating demand for all types of construction. However, it is also an economy that n the past has been
protected from external influences, but with the economy becoming more open, as well as greater opportunities for investment and economic growth, that are driving internal and external demand for construction
(Nellis and Parker, 2000). However, despite the industry growing and playing an important role directly and indirectly in the development of India, it may be argued that there is not
balance between the influences of the government and public sector and the private sector. There are many problems in the construction industry in India, with many causes. However we
may argue that the impact of the government and the controls that are laid down impact directly on the construction industry and directly on the macro economic factors that are
also influences on the way the constriction industries perform and the way they operate and preventing the development of a competitive industry emerging. For competition to develop in an effective
way there need to be competitive forces felt and influancing the way companies compete (Porter, 1985). Many of the companies working in the construction industry are from other countries since
