ensuring that they have the highest profit margin in the market by seeking to refine and improve manufacturing costs and processes at every opportunity. A business may even have an
advantage in that its structure is simply more organized and thus adaptable than another business. Whatever the case, an advantage of some sort is necessary in order to push ahead
in any competitive market. Unfortunately, in recent years, creating and sustaining an advantage has become somewhat more difficult than previously. This is
because many of the practices used to create a definitive advantage in the past are now commonplace, and thus less advantageous. For example, in the 1970s or early 1980s, having
a sophisticated information technology system to manage the inventory, sales, record-keeping, and so on for a business would have been a major advantage and saved the business a great deal
of time and money over competing businesses who were less well-equipped. However, over time, such computerized systems have become considerably more affordable, and in todays world, integrating computers into ones
business architecture is a matter of necessity rather than preference. In other words, having a computerized system is no longer sufficient to create an advantage; rather, it is needed merely
to break even. Likewise, multinational expansion was once the hallmark of only the most successful and lucrative companies. Whether through access to more affordable resources and labor, or simply widening
