recruiting process include current economic situations as well as the War in Iraq (GAO, 2006). In a survey of recruiters, about three quarters of them concurred that the present war
made it quite difficult to recruit successfully (GAO, 2006). This is likely true in recent times when conflict looms large. Yet, this was not the case during earlier war eras
when military service was more popular and revered. One can see that there are many factors that hurt the recruitment process. The war is quite significant as there is greater
risk for recruits when there is an ongoing war. There is a greater likelihood that someone who joins will see action, and this is not the case during more peaceful
times. The fear of terrorism is a part of the problem. This is not an ordinary war. Military bases have been the targets of attack. Conversely, it is true that
terrorism to some extent helps the effort. There are some people who sign up simply because they feel a need to combat the terrorists. They want to do something for
their country. While it may be true that some potential recruits want to serve their country due to the current situation, the current recruitment scenario is more negative than
positive. There is low compensation, and an unpopular war, that make joining the Marines less attractive than in the past. There is also parental influence. It is important to remember
