but also in terms of the scope and the aims and policies of the union. The development of a European Parliament and the European Courts of Justice have provided a
framework for the enlargement2, and aided in terms of joint decision making, but bringing so many nations together cannot fail to have challenges. The EU faces a number of
challenges as the twenty-first century progresses in managing the membership and facing the challenges existing new members in dealing with current and future issues. Many of the challenges have been
recognised for many years, but some are more recent. The problems may be seen as social and practical, covers areas such as social issue, security, and economic challenges. Some
of these challenges can be considered individually. Administration Challenges One first problem which has been cited for many years is the
increased burdens that are present in the administration of a large union where there are a number of differences including political and cultural systems. Administering states within a single country
can difficult due to the regional differences, countries in a single union pose an even greater challenge bringing together the diverse structures and contacts3.
