the story of a man, Tayo, who has experienced the worst of WWII. He comes home and must find his identity, a new identity perhaps, in relationship to his ethnicity
and his place in the world of the Native people. There are elements in Tayo, and others around him, that speak of a violence that can be seen in all
parts of society, regardless of race or ethnicity. The following paper presents a tutorial which illustrates the foundations of an abusive individual as it may relate to the experiences of
a son with an abusive father. Ceremony by Leslie Marmon Silko An abusive father can be incredibly violent and that violence can become evident in beatings and angry
outbursts. For a child that reality is devastating but it also clearly embodies something that the child knows nothing about, as is evidenced in Ceremony. In this story Tayo, "is
suffering from a sort of post traumatic stress disorder which has affected him physically as well as emotionally due to the fact that he has survived as a prisoner of
war in Japan. Consequently he must deal with all of the horrific memories" (Vianes). For many young adults today the reality of a Vietnam veteran as a father could well
be a reality and that violence is often something that stems from such conditions as seen in the experiences of Tayo. Anger and frustration and confusion lead to violence
in many instances. In Ceremony the Native people see how "Liquor was medicine for the anger that made them hurt, for the pain of loss, medicine for tight bellies and
