it presented through art or through the media, there are those who would argue against its existence. Today this seems to be a very serious reality as we are simply
bombarded with information and perceptions that would, several decades ago, be subjects never discussed. From pornography and its easy access on the Internet, to the leniency with language on basic
television programming, we are currently existing in a world that certainly seems to accept a great deal more in our media than previous generations. This may well be due to
the reality which relates to diffusion in our society, a condition that has powerfully influenced society in the past few decades. With technology and new communication technologies we find ourselves
in a world that is diverse and complex. As such, the case for censorship against the media is weakened. In the following paper we examine the history of censorship, and
then focus on the past few decades of change, which indicate a complexity that is difficult to address when it comes to those who would censor the media.
Censorship in History "It probably all began with a bossy stone-age man erasing an obscene or blasphemous drawing from the wall of a cave. But nothing reliable is known about
censorship of the arts until about 2600BC, when the ancient Egyptian authorities had started to dictate the colours, designs and conventions that artists could employ. The rules were so rigid
they are called the canon. The scale for a human figure, for instance, was laid down as ankle on the first horizontal level, knee on the sixth level, shoulder on
