to imagine or consider that cell phones are also becoming very serious in prisons across the nation. In Vanessa St. Gerards (2005) article which appears in the journal Corrections Today,
and is titled "Tenn. prisons combat contraband cell phones" we see the power and problems of cell phones in prison today. The following paper analyzes this article while also bringing
in two other articles in the discussion. Cell Phones in Prison Most people would not imagine that cell phones in prison
could be a problem, nor would they quickly assume how they could be a problem. But, like many things in prison, cell phones are a threat to the safety of
the prison system and to those on the outside and thus are clearly considered to be a problem. In St. Gerards (2005) she states that, "More than 200 cell
phones have been seized during the past two years in Tennessee prisons" and that "officials worry that inmates are using the phones to create and maintain networks of illegal activities
or orchestrate the smuggling of more contraband" (16). In another state, the state of Arkansas, "Prison officials...see the spread of cell phones in prisons as a growing threat to security,
especially aiding in escape plans. So lawmakers there have made furnishing a cell phone to a prisoner a Class B felony" (State Legislatures, 2005; 12). Generally, in prisons, phone
