perhaps even misdiagnosed. The following paper provides an overview of the condition. Celiac Sprue "Celiac disease is a digestive disease that damages the small intestine and interferes with
absorption of nutrients from food. People who have celiac disease cannot tolerate gluten, a protein in wheat, rye, and barley" (National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, 2009). While gluten is normally
found in particular foods it is also something that is found in things like lip balm, medicines, and vitamins (National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, 2009). It apparently affects as many
as 2 million people in the United States It has also been discovered that it is a genetic disorder (National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, 2009). One of the reasons many
people are likely unaware of the condition is perhaps linked to the fact that it is not always easy to diagnose. This is because it has elements, or symptoms, that
are very similar to other problems such as "irritable bowel syndrome, iron-deficiency anemia caused by menstrual blood loss, inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, intestinal infections, and chronic fatigue syndrome" (National Digestive
Diseases Information Clearinghouse, 2009). The symptoms of this disease are numerous and they can well vary from one person to another. Some of the symptoms one could have are as
follows: chronic diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, vomiting, abdominal bloating and pain, pale, foul-smelling, or fatty stool (National Digestive Diseases Information Clearinghouse, 2009). It seems that in children there can also
