fears were not heeded until the past few years. Many have argued that humans pollute the planet too much and that this is causing global warming but until recently it
seems most people did not pay much attention to such "environmentalist tree huggers." Today, however, is a different story, especially in light of many truths that cannot be ignored, such
as the record hurricanes that came in 2005. The following paper discusses the cause of global warming, illustrating how human activity has put the planet in this position, threatening the
existence of all life forms. Causes of Global Warming "The scientific community has reached a strong consensus regarding the science of global climate change. The world is undoubtedly warming"
(Pew Center, 2006). From the most basic position of causes for global warming, the problem stems from carbon dioxide. "Carbon dioxide and other air pollution that is collecting in
the atmosphere like a thickening blanket, trapping the suns heat and causing the planet to warm up" (Natural Resources Defense Council, 2006). Pew Center (2006) argues the same stating that
carbon dioxide emissions, along with other greenhouse gases are the cause. Greenhouse gases are produced through "industrial processes, fossil fuel combustion, and changes in land use, such as deforestation" (Pew
Center, 2006). In terms of finding the percentage of industries or activities that contribute to global warming one author notes that the
use of energy and the production of energy make up 57% of the problem, chlorofluorocarbons 17%, agricultural practices 14%, changes in land use 9% and other industrial activities make up
3% of the problem (Think Quest, 2006). It is noted that the coal-burning plants, especially those in the United States, create the most amount of carbon dioxide that pollutes the
