much speculation, and a great deal of study involving the cause of the various eating disorders. The following paper examines what is known, and what is being studied, in relationship
to the causes of eating disorders. Causes of Eating Disorders "There are many theories, many interwoven factors, and no one simple
answer that covers person with an eating disorder. For any particular individual, some or all of the following factors will combine to produce starving, stuffing, and purging" (ANRED, 2008). There
has been a great deal of research lately that involves studying how much genetics have to do with eating disorders and it has been discovered how genetics can factor in
for as much as 56% in relationship to the cause of eating disorders (ANRED, 2008). This connection with genetics involves personality types
as well, types that are perhaps ridden with anxiety, have a need for perfection, and people who are inherently disposed to obsessive-compulsive behavior (ANRED, 2008). While clearly some of this
is because of environmental factors, sometimes such behavioral traits are genetic. There has been research that has indicated, for example, how "people with a mother or sister who has had
anorexia nervosa are 12 times more likely than others with no family history of that disorder to develop it themselves. They are four times more likely to develop bulimia" (ANRED,
2008). Clearly there is no finite line that can divide between what is inherited in terms of genetics and what is learned or environmental, but it is also clear that
