Behavioral problems in the classroom can manifest in relationship to any number of causal factors. These factors
can include, but certainly are not limited to, biological, family, school, and culture. Obviously, mitigating for behavioral problems requires careful attention to the precise factor or factors at play.
To demonstrate the incredible complexity of factors that can contribute to behavioral problems in the classroom it is helpful to first consider one
specific cause of behavioral problems in the classroom. Autism, perhaps better than any other specific example, demonstrates that biology can combine with environmental factors such as family, school, and
culture to impact behavior in a myriad of ways. Likewise, the condition must be mitigated in direct relation to each of the causal factors at play. Green (2001,
72), for example, defines autism from a behavioral standpoint noting that it is a "syndrome of behavioral deficits and excesses that have a biological basis but are nonetheless amenable to
