principles. Social doctrines are formed around specific categories in Chapter Four of the Compendium and include: the Principle of the Common Good; the Principle of Subsidiarity; and the Principle
of Solidarity (Libreria Editrice Vaticana, 2004). Also included in this section are Universal Destination of Goods; Participation; Fundamental Values of Social Life; and the Way of Love (Libreria Editrice Vaticana,
2004). The Church writes that what is incorporated in her social teachings doctrines reflects what is known about people "by reason and faith" (Libreria Editrice Vaticana, 2004, 160).
The Principle of the Common Good means that all people are to be treated equally and includes as one evidence of the common good "protection of religious freedom" (Libreria Editrice
Vaticana, 2004, 166). The Principle of Subsidiarity is about relationships or more specifically, it is about the "sum of the relationships between individuals and intermediate social groupings" (Libreria Editrice Vaticana,
