conditions or experiences of the character Holden Caulfield. The following paper presents a tutorial for constructing a story of an event or experiences utilizing Salingers style represented in Holden as
a foundation. "Catcher in the Rye": Foundation for Writing In designing or constructing a story with a similar style to that of Salinger it is perhaps important for
the student to choose and event or experience in their lives that they remember. For this particular writer an example comes to mind wherein at the age of 14, while
at the beach laying in the sun with her best friend a man quietly strode up, stood there, and then without words offered money for something. Confused at first, and
then fearful, this writer made the connection that the man was asking for a sexual favor and she angrily said "get the hell out of here." Such a situation is
one that comes when a person is perhaps coming of age, and finding society or perhaps even men, to be something that one needs to fear. It is something that
could well relate to Salingers Holden who finds no hope in the people he meets, no sense of redemption in the adult society. If the student took their situation,
in this case the writers is the experience of this event, the point is to make many of the sentences short and yet descriptive and full of some sort of
