of essentially having no power, and no control, over ones life. One of the primary characters is Yossarian. Yossarian is a man whom the reader can sympathize with although he
is essentially an incredibly selfish man who could be interpreted as evil and clearly a character who is immoral. The following paper illustrates how Yossarian is an immoral and evil
man but yet one that can be sympathized with. Catch 22: Yossarian The character of Yossarian is a man who will do anything to get out of missions
and saving his own skin. He will put others at risk and lie and cheat in order to protect his own skin and this is ultimately not something that is
considered good or moral in times of war. In times of war a soldier must think of his entire troop, his entire military branch, and the entire focus of the
war. He is there to do what is right, to act morally, and to serve his country protecting people. Yossarian is anything but such a man and in times of
war this makes him more than a selfish man. It makes him all but evil and clearly immoral. Many may argue that all the people in this book are
immoral and crazy, but it is the character of Yossarian who constantly goes out of his way to avoid his duties, trying to get out of missions, and seemingly putting
others in danger as well, letting others conduct missions he tries to avoid. He is a man who may seem kind to some individuals, but clearly is only a manipulative
man. What makes him seem sympathetic is that which involves the futility of the missions that are increasing, from the perspective of Yossarian and others. There is a sense
