Essay / Research Paper Abstract
A 4 page paper presenting a nine-month cash budget for a manufacturer with highly uneven sales. The first and last months are missing necessary values so the cash budget is really only for 6 months rather than 9, but it is obvious that the company will need a large short term loan to account for its inconsistent sales. Cyrus Brown Manufacturing (CBM) appears to be either a cyclical business or one for whatever reasons has highly uneven sales. A cash budget based on
given sales and expenses reveals that sales are very low in early spring but increase throughout the summer months to peak in September. By October, sales have dwindled to
the point of late spring of the same year. With the data given, it is possible to calculate additional cash needs only for
the months of May through October. The cash budget begins in March, during which time CBM will collect 65% of February sales and the final 25% of January sales.
Similarly, the value for the final 25% of February sales is missing from Aprils income, so the total cash inflow for March and April remains unknown.
The final total for November remains unknown as well, because it is not known how much the company will need to pay in direct manufacturing costs
for that month. Thus the net monthly cash flows are known only for May through October.
