romantic adventure in which the guy doesnt get the gal, and I dont care. Because of that, I started to wonder what makes a movie a "classic?"
What has made this movie survive? It is an adventure story set in an exotic place - World War II in the "claimed neutral zone" of Casablanca, where money
talks and everything else walks, and almost everyone knows it. The stars: Bogart and Bergman, as well as Paul Henreid and Claude Rains; Loirre is a
wonderful weasily little man, as well. Bogart as Ric owns a bar that everyone knows and visits - eventually. They come for the food, the music, the booze, and
to watch everyone else who comes for the same reason. Intrigue is served with each glass. The plot clinks with the cubes about who will leave and who
will stay during these desperate times of war. But at Rics a Nazi in uniform may be at the next table and it is still your job not to
flinch. But then I am ahead of myself with enthusiasm. What makes a classic movie? A good story certainly. We have that in the "neutral zone" during wartime.
