Carpal tunnel syndrome affects up to ten percent of Americans every year (AAOS, 2005). Three of every 10,000 workers
in 1998 alone missed time at work because of the condition (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2006). Five thousand of these workers missed over ten days of
work in one year (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2006). The estimated lifetime costs of the condition for each of these workers is $30,000 (National Institute of
Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2006). This costs includes bills incurred from medical care and lost income from missed hours at work (National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2006).
