poor Carleton Wankybucket discovers when he sleeps through two wars. Discussion Carlton Wankybucket was having a most pleasant dream about game hen, suckling pig and roast goose, washed down with
a robust ale. The pies and puddings that were sure to follow would, he had no doubt, be the perfect finishing touch for the feast. The only trouble was, he
couldnt quite get comfortable; there seemed to be something tickling his nose. He brushed at it and it ceased only to return a moment later. He was wondering why
he couldnt see anything when the pig suddenly stood up and did a hornpipe, followed in quick succession by the hen and the goose. He was thinking that it might
just be possible for a pig to dance, but if the pudding joined in, he was leaving immediately. And then the tickling began again. He swatted at it but
this time there was no respite. Carlton began to panic and flailed his arms wildly, even as smoke from the fireplace billowed into the room. He thought he could see
the roast pig glaring at him (the apple in its mouth gave it a singularly sinister appearance) through the gloom; his nerve broke at that and he turned and ran,
only to fall flat on his face. The jolt startled him and woke him up completely. He heaved a sigh of relief as he realized hed been dreaming-hed fallen asleep
in the meadow under a comfortable old oak tree that was dozing in the warm sun. Or it had been warm only now it was - snow? But how could
there be snow in July, even in the Catskills? Carlton pinched himself and succeeded in giving himself a tremendous bruise as well as confirming that he really was awake.
