As this indicates, Raschkes main thesis is that "GloboChristianity is the decisive trend of the late postmodern era..." (Raschke, 2008, p. 23). This thesis is persuasive and eloquently presented in this informative text. First of all, however, in analyzing Raschkes perspective, it is helpful to specify what is meant by the terms "modern" and "postmodern." Historian Zygmunt Bauman (1997) indicates that modernity arose during the Enlightenment, which is an age that perceived all of reality as knowable and potentially controllable via the human faculty of reason. In contrast, postmodernism is tolerant of ambiguity, pluralism and offers only uncertain answers to the ever-changing nature of the contemporary world (Bauman, 1997). A Harvard university professor and chair of the department of religious studies at the University of Denver, as well as an adjunct faculty member at Mars Hill Graduate School and the author of numerous books, postmodernism plays such an integral role in Raschkes writing that he has been referred to "Professor Postmodernism" (Morehead, 2008). In an interview that John Morehead had with Carl Raschke, the author explicitly stated what he means in his postmodern critique of Westerners who "cling to the outmoded modernist assumption that Christianity is basically the same, or should be the same, everywhere in the world" (Raschke, 2008, p. 42). The author explained, "God is always the same from age to age, but he accomplishes his will and purpose in a variety of different ways and by using a myriad (of) historical actors and heterogeneous cultural forms and expressions" (Morehead, 2008).
