One is known as the Protean Career model and is driven by the needs of an individual over the organization. The Protean Career is named after the Greek God Proteus, the Career like Proteus has the adaptability to change direction and or shape to suit the individual, the only drawback being the tightly knit structure that does not allow for any change (Hall, 2004, 1998). In comparing the Protean and Boundryless Career model against the traditional static Career several key questions arise, such as who is actually in charge looking at whether this is the person or the organization and what are the core values required for working for the organization as well as the approach and culture, is progress though simple growth and advancement within the group or does the individual evolve and grow to suit their own nature and power (Hall, 2004, 1998). Within the Protean Career model there is a higher level of mobility and with the spirit becoming more open towards new aspects that are not governed by ideals of the organisation, by comparison in the static career the individual has less manoeuvrability and mobility due to the rigid structure (Hall, 2004). In many aspects a career is no long seen as having a positive standing concerning growth with the larger organisation. The thought of a career being tided to one single group is now seen as outmoded and out dated, an individual has begun to think for themselves and many are re thinking their own lives ...
