recent years demand had fallen as a result of numerous events including the SARs outbreak and several terrorist alerts, in addition to this there are also raising oil costs and
an increasingly competitive and the present of low cost airlines are all putting pressure to reduce costs. Companies such as Air Canada have looked at their structure and the area
with the most potential for cost cutting is that of middle management, the lower levels, those in direct contact with the passengers are needed to provide the service, so middle
management is the next target. However, there is also a moral responsibility to these employees, many of whom have been with the company for many years. There will be two
groups of people who will be suffering the job losses; early retirees and redundant workers. In both cases there may be some commonalities, but each group may also have some
specific needs that will need to be addressed. As a responsible employees Air Canada need to consider what the needs are and how that company may help the employee in
satisfying these needs. The retirement and redundancy program terms have already been determined, and as such the financial incentives or compensation is not a part of this report. The
company are developing a career development programme in order to help the adjustments that the employees will have to make, assessing the needs of each group and then determining the
best way to provide practical help. Each group will be considered individually, however with some measures suggested there may be a cross over between the to groups. 2. The Early
