focus and emphasis became right action while the right doctrine became something that could be debated. However, by the very nature of the definition of doctrine, how can one possible
know what the right action is if they do not believe firmly in a doctrine. Doctrine dictates our actions. Reminder: doctrine is defined as the rule or principle that forms
the basis of a belief; it is also a body of ideas that are believed to be correct and truthful (Encarta(r) World English Dictionary, 1999). The Cardinal states: "Such a
comparison would have been incomprehensible and unacceptable for those in the ancient Church." Separating orthodoxy and orthopraxis is incomprehensible to this writer, as well. It becomes even more incomprehensible when
one understand that the word orthodoxy in the early Church meant "the authentic adoration and glorification of God" (Ratzinger, 2002). It could be viewed as sad that todays Christians cannot
believe as our early Christians did - that everything is dependent upon having or "being in the right relationship with God" (Ratzinger, 2002). That "right relationship" is the crux of
this issue because it is at this point the emphasis is placed on doctrine - doctrine is supposed to tell us or, at least, guide us to know what it
is God wants from us. It was through Christs teachings and examples early Christians learned how to glorify God. This was the melding of glorification and justice. We
