It was also chosen because it makes an interesting change from an oil or energy company; its not immediately apparent how a soft drink company could have the impact of
an auto manufacturer or a steel company. The fact is, all large companies have a significant impact on the environment. Individuals do too of course, but big organizations can do
even more damage. If they have factories, in this case bottling plants, those facilities are usually large and must be heated and cooled, raw materials have to be delivered to
them, employees have to have water and bathrooms and so on. In addition, companies often have fleets of cars and trucks that burn fossil fuels. They too have a significant
environmental impact. Coca-Cola is proud of its efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Its website gives its reasons for the companys commitment to reducing emissions. The Mission Statement says that as
far as the planet is concerned, Coca-Cola want to be a "responsible citizen that makes a difference by helping build and support sustainable communities" (Mission, vision & values, 2009). The
company also notes that there is no longer any real doubt left as to the human contribution to global warming, and as a responsible multinational company, it feels it has
a "role to play in ensuring we use the best possible mix of energy sources, improve the energy efficiency of our manufacturing processes, and reduce the potential climate impact of
