of society, if one commits a heinous enough crime, they are deemed to deserve to be taken out of society forever. Some think that is unfair largely because there is
room for error when a guilty verdict is rendered. While an admitted pedophile and serial killer might not get much sympathy, there are some convicted killers who claim to be
innocent. Some are. Further, the idea that one cannot make a correction to the verdict after the death penalty is implemented is troubling. In Kenya, where life is violent
anyway, the death penalty is utilized as a way to at least try to keep social control. It seems that people there are killed on the streets during petty thievery
and morality is reduced overall as a result. The death penalty is utilized there quite a bit because there are so many violent crimes. In 2002, more than 126 people
were sentenced to death in Kenya ("Kenya," 2003). Today, between one thousand and two thousand individuals sit on death row in that same country (Hood, 2003, p.93). At the same
time, during that year, no executions were actually carried out ("Kenya," 2003). In a sense, there are a lot of guilty verdicts, but not all that many actual sentences carried
out. Knowing the background of the death penalty in the nation, it comes as no surprise that when Kenya did have a chance to vote for the UN resolution
that would effectively abolish the death penalty, representatives voted in the negative ("Kenya," 2003). Other votes or refusals to vote indicate that Kenya is a nation that is for capital
