America is not so bad after all, but the truth is that violence is still a problem and getting worse. People see violence on television which depict suburban teens, who perhaps out of boredom decide to take submachine guns to school and make their mark. But aside from such aberrations, a student writing on this subject might want to point out that violence exists on a daily basis and with Geoffrey Canadas Fist Stick Knife Gun, one is reminded that there are neighborhoods that are replete with violence. Yet, Canada does not write the book to complain about the status quo. Rather, he would like to change things and has been trying. The book is one of the ways in which he has tried to make a difference in the world. Likely, the author hopes that readers will see his point of view in terms of how violence starts and how it can be corralled. At the same time, the book is about the authors personal experiences in both confronting and trying to control violence in society. It is both a testament of a life that is entrenched in a violent society and a recommendation on how to make changes. Canadas life is revealed in this book that conveys his story in addition to it being a book about recommendations in respect to societal violence as a whole. The author begins with tales about his own life and how he grew up in the midst of crime. But the preface to the book is also telling.
