reporting may be able to reduce the level of symbolic violence in society. Symbolic violence was a term used by Bourdieu and is an extension of the more traditional understanding
of the term violence. In this meaning it is mostly unseen or unrecognized and mainly psychological. The occurrence of symbolic violence may even be partly unconscious and includes the elements
of domination in society with the violence being the harm or disadvantage to parts of the society. For example, one is the way in which there is gender
or race dominion, which results in the subjugation of women. When we look at symbolic violence as much if this is purely psychological as it is internal. However, it
is also argued that those who are the victims of the symbolic violence may not recognise the violence but will presuppose a that they will accept the legitimacy of those
inflicting the symbolic violence, usually in the form of language. As individual will adapt to the social space that they occupy this gradual acceptance and adjustment to the
process will be seen to take place as a result of exposure and through the replications of the daily habits. Of these habits the listening to the news and the
reading of papers with reports may be seen as an influencing factor, propagating the mass culture and the popular ideals and as such we see symbolic domination. This is self
maintaining and those who do not subscribe to the official or dominant lines are usually silenced. The newspaper article published in the Guardian is able to draw attention to
