citizens are lost in relationship to international issues, the economy, and where they want this nation to go. There are many issues that are being addressed in this election and
many of them seem incredibly crucial as we think of the war in Iraq, Social Security, stem cell research, and other serious concerns that will ultimately change us. In
light of all these important decisions and directions the people of the United States are generally quite put off when they learn that a leader lied to them. In the
case of President Bush many are surprised he lied about one thing or another. Others refuse to admit that he lied and that he was perhaps only misinformed or that
the media is out to make him look bad, because the media is often seen as a powerful liberal entity. Whatever the case, anyone with any understanding of politics and
the way nations work must realize that lying is a part of being in a powerful position as it relates to ruling a nation. There is no way that a
leader can tell the truth every single time and hope to keep the people safe and directed. While a perfect world would have no lies and upfront honesty in all
national and international matters, the people of a nation cannot necessarily handle the truth. The following paper examines how and why lying is acceptable in the realm of politics.
