at leadership to determine if leaders are born or made we also need to look at the potential ways in which leadership is developed. This becomes very important when leadership
is seen as commodity, and like many other limited resources there is currently a fear of a shortage of leadership. In 1997
a report was issued by a conference board which stated that only 51% of the companies who participated in the survey classed their leaders as excellent or good at meeting
the leadership requirements of the job (Ramano, 1999). The actual requirements of a leader may be interpreted contrastingly by differing organisations, but
the need for leaders appears to be increasing as the supply seems to be diminishing. The shortage of leaders is necessitating the issue of the best way to develop and
train new potential leaders, especially when it is considered that 40% - 50% of middle and senior executives in the United States have been projected at retiring over the next
five years (Byham, 1999). There are many examples of charismatic leaders it is said some business leaders such as Richard Branson have
managed to maintain their leadership style as a result of strength of personality and ability to gain and maintain trust of those they work with and those who invest in
