Schein, another expert in this topic, said that culture is "a pattern of shared basic assumptions that the group learned" (SOI 2005). Culture is about what gets done, how it gets done and who does it. It includes the prevalent leadership style used in the company. The culture is embedded in employees minds even through they may not discuss it as such. Cultures are generally stable and fully ensconced in the workings of the organization. This makes the culture nearly impossible to change. New employees may select to work at a company because it likes the way it does things. Existing employees may be staying for the same reason. It is comfortable and feels secure. There are numerous forces that work to retain the culture exactly as it is. These include the organizations mission, values and philosophy and their written procedures and policies. The forces also include the structure and the physical spaces, hiring, training and promotion practices and rituals (Department of Education, 2010). In a strong culture, nobody wants the culture to change. This is even truer when job satisfaction is very high. Employees at all levels feel safe and secure in the culture and they will be aggressive in resisting any attempt to change it. Given these facts, the culture can not change. Others argue strongly that a corporate culture may be hard to change but it is not impossible to change.
