isnt true. Assaults, hate crimes, and particularly rape of female students is a problem for all colleges. This paper discusses how one student council can make a difference
and help to solve the problem of an unsafe campus. Discussion The problem on this campus, which has a large number of students who commute to class each day and
do not live on campus, is attacks on female students on their way to the parking lots. It is a problem because not only are such attacks criminal, they
are also terrifying the women, giving the school a bad name, and making people think twice about considering the school for their children. The decline in enrollment will have
an impact across the campus: student fees and tuition will increase; some classes will be cut; some services will not be offered. The student council has decided it cannot
let this continue. Campus and city police are working to address the attacks as a criminal matter, and its best if they are left alone to do the work for
which they are trained. The student council is thinking of other ways to help. First, they considered using the $10,000 to buy increased lighting for the parking
lots and pathways. However, installing streetlights is very expensive because it means hiring professional electricians, getting permits from the city, renting equipment to handle the light poles and so on.
Even one street light is beyond their means, so they are going to get creative and create a new escort and patrol service. Over the next month they plan
to keep careful records of when they receive the most requests for escort service (a student with a radio and emergency equipment walks another student to their vehicle). This
