grooming for children to become good citizens, juvenile delinquency prevention is something being accomplished in states like California. Boone (1997) writes about a study comparing four intervention programs with Californias
three strikes laws, such as early childhood intervention programs and school based interventions. Such interventions may indeed make three strikes laws a thing of the past. An example of
an early intervention program in the state of California that hopes to accomplish a number of goals is provided by Stanley (2004) in an article entitled "California Program Focuses on
School Readiness." Stanley (2004) writes: "California State University, Long Beach, in collaboration with Long Beach Unified School Districts Head Start and Child Development Centers, and the community childcare agency Young
Horizons implemented an intervention and evaluation program to improve childrens school readiness. The focus of Readiness and Early Activities for Children from the Heart (REACH) is the education and retention
