California. Any lawsuit brought by Joan against Dr. Sanders should reflect the fact that Dr. Sanders was committing a felony crime at the time that the injury occurred.
First, California Business and Professions Code Section 601 addresses the issue of advertising for abortion services. This code specifically states that any person who "willfully writes, composes or publishes
any notice or advertisement of any medicine or means of producing or facilitating a miscarriage or abortion..." or if the person simply offers services for abortion through the use of
this advertisement, is guilty of the commission of a felony punishable under California Penal Code (California Business and Professions Code Section 601). While Dr. Sanders can legally practice medicine
in the United State and can legally perform abortion services in the State of California, she cannot advertise her services as an abortion clinic. Generally speaking, when a
defendant is served with a lawsuit, her or she has 30 days to respond to the lawsuit unless otherwise specified in the documents. The period of time that Dr.
Sanders has to respond to the lawsuit is based on the method of service, and so can vary somewhat. If Joan has Dr. Sanders served with a summons in
person and this is documented, the period of time that Dr. Sanders has to answer the summons begins at the time of service. If Dr. Sanders is served by
mail, this must be done in the form of a registered letter and service begins 10 days following the mailing of the summons to Dr. Sanders workplace or known address
