time it fell below 30% in 2009 (Boyle, 2009). This places Cadbury as the firm with the largest market share, as Nestle, owner of Mars, has a 20.4% of the
market and Kraft, the owner of Milka and Toblerone has a 5% share of the market (Boyle, 2009). The chocolate market is not the only market that the firm
is active in, the firm recently entered the gum market, with the new brand Trident, by the end of 2009 Cadbury had achieved a strong market penetration and gained a
15% share of the market (Burkitt, 2009). The firm is determined to increase this market share with a $10 million advertisement campaign for the first half of 2010 with
the aim of increasing that market share (Burkitt, 2009). There is also ongoing product development, Cadbury undertake product development in three main approaches, these include development of completely
new products, these are products that are a new concept of development, such as the recently launched Cadbury Melts, where a hard candy coating is covering a milk chocolate centre
(Cadbury, 2010). As well as the development of new products, another product from strategy is the extension of existing brands, this is being seen with the Flake range, where there
has been the launch of a praline covered flake, a dark chocolate flake and flake moments (Cadbury, 2010). Not all product launches are successful, with some withdrawn from the market
