important part of successful international operations. In this paper, well focus on conducting business in Mexico and Costa Rica, both of which are countries in Latin America. Because were addressing
two countries, rather than one country, well focus on Latin American cultural behaviors and ethics in general, though there are some slight differences between Mexico and Costa Rica. Well focus
on four of Hofstedes cultural dimensions for both of these countries. Uncertainty avoidance. Coast Rica has high uncertainty avoidance, meaning this is a nation that will do whatever it
can to reduce any kind of uncertainty through strict rules, policies and regulations (Costa Rica, 2011). Mexico also has a high uncertainty avoidance ranking (Mexico, 2011). In such a case,
it means the society is very risk-averse and doesnt accept change gracefully (Mexico, 2011). This could be a problem for a foreign business that wants to try something new and

Mexico is quite high in the power distance ranking, suggesting a high level of power, wealth and inequality in society (Mexico, 2011). Costa Rica, on the other hand, is low
on the power distance scale, meaning equality and opportunity for all are stressed over everything going to those in power (Costa Rica, 2011). These are important to consider, as in
Mexico, in particular, treatment of labor and granting of licenses could be tied to this power distance index. There are several issues here in both Costa Rica and Mexico.
