Before trying to prove this statement, it would be helpful to define what, exactly, critical thinking skills are. According to Paul, Binker, Jensen and Kreklau,
there are 35 dimensions of critical thought (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, 2001). For purposes of this paper, these include, but are not necessarily limited to independent thought, exercising fair-mindedness,
suspending judgment, developing confidence in reason, avoiding generalizations and oversimplification, questioning almost everything, assessing solutions, evaluating assumptions and recognizing contradictions (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, 2001). Education - both
higher education (such as in college) and continuing education (such as on-the-job training or perusal of a masters degree) can help greatly in boosting critical thinking.
This is also the case when it comes to pursuing a masters degree. On the one hand, a masters degree can, in many cases, boost a
salary (although this is becoming less and less true in todays economy). But perhaps what is more important is that a masters degree involves an intense period of study that
allows the student to explore a discipline in greater detail than he or she might have been able to do as an undergrad (Warwick Business School, 2003).
In addition, obtaining a masters requires certain skills. First, there is the writing of a dissertation, which builds the skills of research and communications (Warwick
