The article selected from the October 14, 2011 edition of the Fort Worth Star Telegram describes how the citys mayor, Betsy Price, reported
more than $900 taken from her political campaign fund following the theft of the account number more than a month before the act (Hanna, 2011). The mayor was quoted as
suggesting that someone stole the account information, then created debit cards and a check based on that stolen information (Hanna, 2011). Two debit cards transactions (one at a Walmart in
Abilene, TX and the other at a Walmart in Oklahoma City) and one check (written at a Lowes in Fort Worth) were charged against the account (Hanna, 2011).
In this situation, there were actually two crimes: One was actual theft of the account number and the other involved debit card and check fraud
by using the stolen numbers. Which psychological theory best fits this crime? Choice theory, introduced
by William Glasser, points out ten "axioms," which include components such as "the only person whose behavior we can control is our own" and "all behavior is Total Behavior and
is made up of . . . acting, thinking, feeling and physiology" (Ten Axioms of Choice Theory, 2011). Choice theory also points out that, though all total behavior is chosen,
we have only direct control over the acting and thinking components, with feeling and physiology controlled through acting and thinking (Ten Axioms of Choice Theory, 2011).
