the authorities uncover a different story, one which tells the tale of a person who was psychologically unhinged. Yet, this is not the face that he showed to the public.
The public only saw the veneer, but it was what lay beneath that everyone needed to fear. Characters in stories are much the same way. Their external actions and persona
are quite often contrary to the internal landscape of their minds and psychological make up. The face that is presented in public is quite different from that which emerges
behind closed doors or is reflected in ones own mirror(Nussbaum, 1999). Why does this phenomenon happen? Are these people dishonest, or merely uncomfortable sharing their true identity with people that
they do not know well? "Whatre you lookin at?" Chris looked away as the man
in the cell next to him, stood, expelled a large quantity of gas, then walked to the bars that separated them. "Yeah. You were lookin at me. I seen
ya. Pretty boy." "Leave me alone." There that old feeling was again, that innate knowledge that hed honed to a fine skill in high school. Back then hed have been
looking at the world through the narrow slats of a locker. Chris forced himself to look at the man standing in the next cell, the bars keeping the mans body
from coming through, but not the spit. The sound of the mans saliva smacking him in the forehead broke him from his self induced stupor. Chris stood and glared at
