water and I knew from the condition of the carpet as I crossed it that Shea had probably spent her whole day off cleaning the house. "Sweetheart, Im home,"
I called as I walked past the kitchen entrance. Suddenly, it dawned on me. Other than the sound of water running into the kitchen sink, there was a decided lack
of giggling, tumultuous greetings and massive leg hugging which usually accompanied my return to the house. I parked my briefcase beside the entertainment center in the den, took off my
shoes and dumped my jacket in the closet, then headed through the hall toward the kitchen. I leaned into the doorway. "Hey, arent we missing a few small critters
that usually inhabit the three foot area around my feet?" I didnt hear her reply at first. Wearing a pair of gray sweat-shorts and my old Rugby Tee-shirt I was
