except instead of asking how one learns, Yount wonders how one learns and develops spirituality and a knowledge of God. The sheer amount of information that one is bombarded with at any one instance is astounding these days. Of course, this just reinforces the obvious: mankind was born to learn and acquire knowledge. Armed with this insight into the basic human need to know is it possible to use this to present the abstract concept of God? Younts Disciplers Model is the main thrust of the book and deals with how one does present the abstract concept of God to the lay person. The model is divided into seven modules or steps/ways that God may be presented to people and begins with the question about how one teaches, either in a Sunday School or from the pulpit, in a way that encourages growth. "The truth is," states Yount, "many ministerial students experience anxiety when confronted by a study of secular theorists and their ideas. How will these ideas influence my thinking? My values? My faith? How far can I go in embracing secular theories before compromising my beliefs?"(Yount 1). This is a very real fear and causes much apprehension, Yount states, among young seminary students. To alleviate their fear, Yount offers a step by step process by which students are allowed to analyze the best of the theories presented, apply those that best match the Christian faith. What this does, then, is to give the student a firmer hold on what he/she believes while understanding what the perspectives may be of others who have studies similar ideas.
