from a number of sources, the increased use of accounting software is lessening the demand fro CPA services, and the increasing number of accounting services offered by non CPA is
also increasing. This may be seen as an effective supply of accounting services, with more suppliers all seeking to gain the same business, which in terms of basic rules of
supply and demand will result in downward pressures on price. In harsh economic conditions there are also downward pressures on all businesses and individuals who may use the services
of a CPA, if they are seeking to save costs then if the alterative from the non CPA services are seen as acceptable they may shift the services, to the
lower cost providers. If they are seen as a suitable substitute the only part of the accounting services they undertake it is possible that embraced just some of the demand
to the non CPA services, which also reduces the business for a CPA firm. When considering the underlying cost structure in such difficult conditions a CPA firm which is
facing a declining demand will need to consider the elasticity of the product, whether or not they can keep prices high based on the differentiation of the services they offer
the professional qualifications. However, if the demand is moving with cost been a primary motivator then the water supply and demand for apply, and as the supply increases without a
corresponding increase in the level of demand the prices will fall (Nellis and Parker, 2006). A CPA may then consider ways in which they can compete which will allow them
to bring costs down. As many of the clients of switching to non- CPA services, this would indicate that they are seen as a suitable receptacle substitute by many customers.
