come under closer scrutiny. Due to the newer technology the ideas formerly accepted by scientists and psychologists are coming into challenge. One of the formerly accepted ideas was that
of psychosexual development. The Oedipus complex and the Electra Complex sprung from this theory. Sigmund Freud theorized that there were basically three levels to the human mind: id, ego and
the super ego. In a brief overview, he determined that the Id is associated with the immediate gratification of the unconscious. In other words this level is the most primal
and does not consider anyone or anything other than itself as center of the universe. For example, a person with an ID problem acts on every impulse without regard to
its rightness or wrongness. Suffice it to say, that in order to be accepted into civilized society, a person has to develop a mechanism for controlling the Id. This is
where ego comes into play. Ego intervenes between instinctual needs and external reality, or reality and fantasy. This gives the person the
inner strength to suppress the immediate desires of the Id. Superego is just a more developed ego. It is our conscience--that part of us that knows right from wrong,
or morality/values. Freud theorizes that inherent in every newborn child is the urge to engage in sexual acts with the parent of the
opposite sex, and kill the parent of the same sex(Freud, 2004). Most of his work tends to only dwell on male development, but it has since been found that females
