been able to achieve thus far in his history. This classical time in Ancient Greece managed to produce some of the most finely detailed marble sculptures that the world has
ever seen. They are incomparable the world over. One might learn a great deal about these sculptures by an examination and comparison of the diadomenos marbles to the kouros figures.
The discovery of marble and its use as a sculpting medium allowed the artists of this age to great more naturalistic sculptures. In return what this offered the artist
was the ability to create a feeling of movement in their works. The diadomenos works are evident of this. The earlier forms of sculptures were called the
Kouros figures. A comparison of Kouros figures to the diadomenos figures illustrate the momentum and intuitive leaps that were made by the classical artists. For example, the stylized representations of
the Kouros figures was refined to show more natural movement and poses. Another good difference was the concept of the beauty of the human body in its entirety. For the
first time, experts report, the diadomenos statues were anatomically correct(Boardwell 1996). Additionally, what can be stated was that this time in history seems to
illustrate a greater command of the medium than in earlier times. This is, perhaps, in part due to the creation of more sophisticated tools and implements, or perhaps it was
a change and shift in perspectives and belief systems. At any rate, rather than a portrayal of a one dimensional representation, such as is seen with the Kouros figures, the
figures of the classical period were fully three dimensional and lifelike. Part of what made the earlier sculptures seem lifeless had been the lack of movement in their works. Static
