"Competition in the Golf Equipment Industry in 2008" points out that golf has been around for a long time; for centuries. These days, during golfing season, an avid golf follower
can turn on the television set on any Sunday afternoon and see the game played at a variety of course across the United States and around the world. Thanks to
a couple of charismatic professionals, golf has also become a well-watched sport. According to the case study, at the beginning of the
21st century, the U.S. golf economy accounted for approximately $62 billion worth of goods and services, and involved industries such as equipment manufacturers, course designers, course maintenance and club management
services. Also in the mix were auxiliary businesses, such as residential golf communities and tourism. In 2000, the golf equipment segment of the industry accounted for around $4 billion in
retail sales. But by 2008, the golf equipment industry was in trouble. The number of golfers in the States dwindled, while
the number of rounds of golf played in the United States hadnt grown since 2000. Adding to the issue was that
