West Texas institutions, lets focus on what, exactly, a mission statement is supposed to do. A well-crafted mission statement lets people
know what an organization is, what it does and why it exists (Mission Statement, 2009). The mission statement should also offer information about the products/services the organization provides, as well
as the area in which the organization operates (Mission Statement, 2009). Now lets examine the mission statements. Covenant Medical Center is
a health care center in Lubbock, and its mission is "to extend Christian ministry by caring for the whole person - body, mind and spirit - and by working with
others to improve health and quality of life in our communities." The organization attempts to adhere to its mission by offering a variety of hospitals and medical centers for patients.
On the website page entitled "community everywhere theres a need," Covenant Medical Center introduces its different "branches" - heart (Heart and Vascular Institute); brain and neurology (NeuroScience Institute); rehabilitation center
(Owens-White Outpatient Rehabilitation Center); cancer (Joe Arrington Cancer Research and Treatment Center) and maternity/womens issues (Covenant Womens Hospital) (Covenant Medical Center, 2009). The organization also has an education component -
a school of nursing, a school of radiology and a school for surgical technicians (Covenant Medical Center, 2009). What is interesting about glancing at the organizations website is that its
