2008). Stereotyping, in the meantime, focuses on certain beliefs about characteristics of certain group members (mainly negative beliefs), while prejudice involves negative feelings toward other groups (or "out" groups that
are not part of the "in" group) (?gretir & ?scelik, 2008). Discrimination takes this one step further, involving behavior that promotes disadvantages to members in groups deemed unacceptable (?gretir &
?scelik, 2008). Racism is defined as an attitude, views or attitudes attributed to a particular race (again, the attitude or views are typically negative).
Given these definitions, we can see a great deal of overlap - stereotypes and racism go hand-in-hand, for example. Chief Wahoo, the logo used for the Cleveland Indians professional
baseball team, is considered highly stereotypical; it shows a grinning cartoon figure of an American Indian, which might give the impression that all American Indians are grinning idiots. This, in
turn, can lead to racism (the assumption that, based on Chief Wahoo and the stereotype there, that American Indians are grinning idiots). This, in turn, can lead to a negative
